Ms. Sousa grew up in Fresno and attended CSU Fresno, earning B.A.s in Journalism and Broadcast Communications (or Radio-TV in those days) and a minor in Business.
She graduated from U.C. Hastings College of Law in 1989.
She joined SCCDA’s Office as a post-bar clerk in August 1989 and began working officially as a DA January 1990. Julie has worked a variety of assignments, including general misdemeanors and felonies, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, Narcotics, Gangs, Juvenile Delinquency, Asset Forfeiture, Motions, and Family Support (civil and criminal enforcement). Currently, she handles several complex Provider, Billing and Premium Fraud cases in her assignment in the Workers’ Comp and Disability and Healthcare Insurance Fraud unit.
She is married to a retired police lieutenant, has a daughter in high school, a son finishing middle school and a Chihuahua mix named Maisie who enjoys fostering kittens for the local animal shelter.
Ms. Sousa enjoys growing tomatoes and roses, reading Flavia DeLuce mysteries and watching torturous SF Giants baseball.
